CMMS software comparison: how to choose well
Comparing CMMS software feature by feature rarely leads to the right choice. This comparison starts from the right place: the criteria that truly make a difference in the field, the landscape of the main vendors (MaintainX, DimoMaint, IBM Maximo, Fiix), and where Maint Vision, a French CMMS with your data hosted in Europe, stands. No bashing, and no invented figures.
How to compare CMMS software without getting it wrong
Most comparisons line up checkboxes. Yet two CMMS tools can list the same features and deliver opposite results, depending on whether technicians actually adopt them. The real test is not “Which one has the most features?” but “Which one will your teams use every day?” So compare on your own workflow: a work order created, assigned, executed on mobile then closed; a preventive plan that triggers itself; a part issued from stock. The rest are structural criteria this comparison details below.
The selection criteria that really matter
Beyond the core workflows (work orders, preventive, assets, parts, QR, mobile) that any good CMMS covers, a few criteria tip the balance. Is the interface truly in your language, or translated afterward? Is the mobile app designed for the shop floor? Where is your data hosted, and is GDPR built in by design? Is the procedure AI included or billed separately? Does the pricing model allow a real trial, with no credit card? Does support speak your language? And will you be able to get your data back whenever you want? The table below sums up these criteria and Maint Vision’s answer.
The CMMS landscape: who does what
Each vendor has its playing field. MaintainX (United States, Autodesk group since 2026) is a mobile-first benchmark, with great maturity and a very broad integrations ecosystem. DimoMaint (France, formerly DIMO Maint) is a long-established player with an EAM heritage, whose offers range from a remote start to a supported project. IBM Maximo (United States) targets the top of the market: a very powerful enterprise EAM, with entry packages under USD 40K a year. Fiix (Canada, Rockwell Automation group) is a cloud CMMS well established in North America. Against them, Maint Vision is a younger, growing product: we say so plainly. Our bet is not the biggest catalog, but being the easiest CMMS to adopt for a French-speaking team.
Where Maint Vision stands
Maint Vision covers the essential CMMS workflows (work orders, preventive maintenance, assets, parts, QR codes, mobile app) and focuses its efforts where they matter most for a French-speaking team: an interface written in French and English at the same time, with the trade’s vocabulary, and procedure AI included in the Business plan, whereas Fiix and IBM offer AI as an add-on. Like MaintainX, Fiix and DimoMaint, we keep requesters free and unlimited; the trial needs no credit card. Where we are younger: the breadth of the integrations ecosystem, and offline mobile data entry, which DimoMaint, Fiix (free plan included) and MaintainX (Premium and Enterprise plans) offer, whereas offline, the Maint Vision app is read-only. MaintainX also offers AI procedure generation from its free plan: we would rather state it than dress it up.
Detailed head-to-head comparisons
For each of the vendors above, we have published an honest, point-by-point comparison: MaintainX alternative, DimoMaint alternative, IBM Maximo alternative and Fiix alternative. For each, you will find what it does very well and the cases where Maint Vision has the edge. And for any other vendor, the criteria table on this page remains your best guide: ask every supplier the same questions and compare the answers on the evidence.
The best comparison is still your trial
No table replaces a real test. Open a free trial, with no credit card, import a few assets, create a work order and a preventive plan, then run the tool on mobile for a week. You will know within days whether it fits how you work, which no comparison can tell you on your behalf. For compliance questions, our security, GDPR and EU hosting page details where and how your data is protected.
The criteria for comparing a CMMS
| Why it is decisive | Maint Vision | |
|---|---|---|
| Interface in your language | Cuts data-entry errors and training time | Written in French and English at the same time |
| Field mobile app | Maintenance happens at the machine, not at a desk | Included: asset sheet via QR, photos, fast entry; checklists on the Pro and Business plans |
| Preventive maintenance | Moving from reactive to preventive improves equipment reliability | Pro and Business plans (and the trial): calendar-based and by meter readings |
| Data hosted in the EU (GDPR) | Determines your compliance and where data resides | European Union (Frankfurt), GDPR by default, art. 28 DPA provided |
| Procedure AI | Saves writing time day to day | Included in the Business plan, with no separate paid module |
| Pricing model and trial | A real trial beats a quote | Free trial with no card, per user, unlimited requesters |
| Support in French | Speeds up onboarding and resolution | Yes |
| Data portability | Avoids proprietary lock-in | CSV export (readable in Excel) at any time |
| Integrations ecosystem | Matters if your IT landscape is complex | Growing (we state it plainly) |
| Core CMMS workflows (WO, preventive, assets, parts, QR, mobile) | The expected foundation of any CMMS | Covered |
This table sums up the selection criteria and Maint Vision’s answer. For the other vendors, ask these same questions and verify each point directly with them: offers change on both sides.
